6. Agriculture
Everyone must eat. From availability of food to inadequate
storage facilities to poor funding and unfavourable
agricultural policies, there is an urgent need for Africa to
address its agricultural challenges.
7. Road networks
Bad road networks can affect effective transportation of
agricultural produce, lead to accidents, contribute to job
losses, and impact lives negatively. As such, Africa needs to
design solutions to address its infrastructural challenges and
other issues like poor labour, substandard road construction
materials, etc.
8. Employment
The Global Employment Trends for Youth 2020: Africa,
which was published by the International Labour
Organisation, showed that youth unemployment in Africa
was only 10.6%. While this low figure is impressive, it masks
the high rate of underemployment which must be addressed
on the continent.
9. Environmental hygiene
Given Africa’s population, there is no doubt that its hygiene

requirements need to be taken seriously. As such, Africa
must address pressing environmental issues like pollution,
marine-life preservation, proper waste disposal and
management.
10. Infrastructure
The lack of physical and social infrastructure, poor funding
for MSMEs, and unavailability of enough agricultural
equipment contribute to the challenges faced by many
Africans. This, in turn, negatively impacts individual and
economic productivity.
11. Social welfare
Many European and Asian countries have invested resources
in supporting low-income earners and providing citizens
with basic needs. Africa, on the other hand, has done little in
this regard, consequently contributing to the increasing
number of Africans who are living below the poverty line.
12. Education
According to a report published by the UNESCO Institute of
Statistics, more than 50% of youths between the ages of 15
and 17 are not in school. This is worrisome given that
